[Archived] Question # 45: What would be the first step and cost for starting to implement the proposed Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Readiness Strategy?

Question:

What would be the first step and cost for starting to implement the proposed Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Readiness Strategy? (Vice-Mayor Bennett-Parker, Councilman Chapman)

Response:

The first step in implementing the Alexandria Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Readiness Strategy (EVRS) is funding an Electric Vehicle Navigator position in the FY2022 budget. The Electric Vehicle Navigator, a position recommended in the EVRS, will serve as a program manager to engage the Alexandria community on electric vehicle charging infrastructure needs as well as to support implementation of further EVRS recommendations. The estimated budget for the Electric Vehicle Navigator position is $140,000 per year. If the City Council funds the Electric Vehicle Navigator position through the FY2022 Budget Add/Delete process, implementing priority EVRS recommendations could begin in FY2022. The City Manager has proposed funding this position out of a portion of the increased revenue projections outlined in Budget Memo #50.
