Question:

How many of the City's firefighters are female? 

Response: 

There are 222 FTEs in the following classifications for the Fire Department: dual-role providers, firefighters, assistant fire chiefs, deputy fire chiefs and the Fire Chief. Currently 33 of the 222 FTEs are female. 

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), there were approximately 10,300 career female firefighters in 2016 which equates to 4.1% of the total number of career firefighters. The percent of female fire personnel in the City of Alexandria is 14.9%.
