List the public safety related fees (excluding bail), the amount of
revenue they bring in, and where our fees might compare to local jurisdictions.
Response:
This is in response to a request from Councilman Chapman for information regarding public safety related fees, the amount of revenue they bring in, and how they compare to local jurisdictions.
Staff identified sources of public safety related fees that regularly generate revenue and gathered benchmarking data for those fees against the City's adjacent neighbors, Arlington County and Fairfax County. The comparison of these fees is listed in Attachment I.
Staff also tracked the revenue history for these fees is included in Attachment II. Changes to budgeted amounts were made on a year-to-year basis to adjust for both prior year actuals and projected revenues. Many of the identified fees are regulated by Virginia Code; further review would be needed to evaluate if and where fee increases would be feasible.
