Memo for fiscal year 2018, updated 2017-04-14

[Archived] Question #53: Will T&ES be willing and able to compile the Safe Routes to Schools (SRS) improvements, develop rough cost estimates for them and share the results with Council and the public?

Question:

A survey is underway to assess desirable Safe Routes to Schools (SRS) improvements.  Will T&ES be willing and able to compile these improvements, develop rough cost estimates for them and share the results with Council and the public?

Response:

T&ES is conducting twelve walk audits around schools to evaluate conditions and develop rough cost estimates for safety improvements to improve the walking and biking environment. Two walk audits have been completed, and the remaining ten walk audits will be completed by the end of this school year. The reports, including cost estimates, should be finalized by August, and the results will be shared with Council and the public. As a point of reference, the two walk audits that have already been conducted (Lyles Crouch Elementary and Maury Elementary) show preliminary costs estimated around $148,000 for those two sites. Once the report is complete, a comprehensive implementation plan will be created to prioritize and address urgent needs first.
