Response:
The TeensWork! Program, operated by the Department of Community and Human Services Workforce Development Center, provides a six-week summer work experience to 153 low income youth age 14 to 24 to increase employability and self-sufficiency. The TeensWork! Program enhances youth education, encourages school completion, and provides exposure to the world of work through apprenticeship and career exploration. Currently, participants are placed in 60 government and non-profit agencies in the City of Alexandria and they work 20 hours a week and earn minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. The table below shows the current cost to administer the program and the increased costs if the program were to be expanded.
