Question:
What would the cost be to implement a 3-days a week Power-Up program at Hammond, instead of implementing the full cut?
Response:
A 3-days a week option would cost $18,000. A reduced number of days per week may lead to an even smaller enrollment since it would limit the opportunities for youth to participate. Hammond offers many school-sponsored after school programs including tutoring, intramurals, and clubs on various days of the week. Power-Up has been available after those activities and on a daily basis for parents who want to be assured that their child is in a supervised setting. An alternative recommendation that may have less of an impact on enrollment could be to fund Power-Up at $24,000 and offer the program 4-days a week (Monday - Thursday) since ACPS transportation often cancels on the Friday’s prior to holiday weekends or vacations.
