[Archived] Question #23: Did ACPS teachers receive pay increases every year since 2008?
Question:
Did ACPS teachers receive pay increases every year since 2008?
Response (Revised):
ACPS provided for their teachers to receive the following pay adjustments since FY 2008. Mid-year steps are full step increases, but occur half way through the year as opposed to at the beginning of the year.
ACPS Teachers | City Staff | |
FY 2008 | Full Step; No Market Rate Adjustment (MRA) | Full Step; 1.5% MRA |
FY 2009 | Full Step; No MRA, $500 one-time payment1 | Full Step; No MRA; $500 one-time payment |
FY 2010 | Full Step, Mid-Year; No MRA | None |
FY 2011 | Full Step, Mid-Year; No MRA | Full Step; No MRA |
FY 2012 | Full Step; No MRA | Full Step; No MRA |
FY 2013 | No Step; 2.2% MRA | Full Step; No MRA |
FY 2014 | Full Step, Mid-Year; No MRA | Full Step; No MRA |
FY 2015 | No Step; 1.0% MRA | Full Step; No MRA |
FY 2016 | Full Step; No MRA | Full Step; No MRA |
FY 2017 | Full Step; No MRA | Full Step; No MRA |
FY 2018 Proposed | Full Step; No MRA | Full Step; No MRA |
While there has been some form of salary increase either through merit steps (full or mid-year) and/or through MRAs for teachers since 2008, it is possible that, due to the higher cost for employee benefits or adjustments to the percentage share of those benefit costs paid by employees, the net take-home pay may not have reflected an increase during some of those years.
1This answer has been amended from the original version, which inadvertently omitted the $500 one-time payment for teachers in FY 2009. City staff compensation increases that were not included in the original response have been added.
